A message from our CEO
Sparrow & Jacobs prides itself on being an organization that continually strives to Amaze, Astonish, and Astound our Customers with our exceptional service and commitment. Part of this commitment includes our responsibility to our environment. Because we produce and mail catalogs, we understand that we can take a leading role in helping to protect our environment and natural resources, and are pleased to actively participate in this effort.
I would like to share with you some of the things that we are doing that support this role.
Within our Company, we recycle all paper and boxing materials that enter our facility. This past year we were able to recycle several tons of material, and are seeking additional ways that we can recycle the products that we use or receive from outside vendors.
We are a member of The Arbor Day Foundation, and have given funds to plant 500 trees in 2008. The goal of The Arbor Day Foundation is to "inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees." This purpose resonates with the corporate responsibility that we hold, and we are proud to participate and support this organization's efforts through their "Trees for America" program.
The paper used for all our catalogs comes from a mill that has certification from the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) meeting strict standards for environmentally and socially responsible forestry practices, including a commitment to sustainable forest management programs. In addition, our mill has also met "Chain-of-Custody" standards, tracing the path of the logs taken from the forest, until they are produced into paper, ensuring that the trees harvested do not use "old forests" but well-managed forests that practice conservation programs.
We are working to increase our electronic communications. We try to communicate with our Customers in the manner that they most prefer, and for Customers who prefer an electronic communications option, we are able to easily accommodate this request.
We appreciate the opportunity to serve our Customers while continuing to work as advocates in protecting and preserving our nation's resources. We believe this is our corporate responsibility, and we are pleased to take an active role in supporting it.
Sincerely,

Douglas R. Smith
President and CEO
Our Internal recycling efforts
Take a look at what we've recycled internally in 2007. Here are the resources that we've conserved from our employees' efforts to recycle materials:

Our Paper
At Sparrow & Jacobs, we purchase paper for our catalogs from the only mill that has received certification from the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and the CSA (Canadian Standards Association) for meeting strict standards for environmentally and socially responsible forestry practices, and commitment to sustainable forest management programs.
Our paper mill has met "Chain-of-Custody" standards for tracing the path the logs take from the forest through the mill to our end product, ensuring that the trees harvested for our paper do not use "old forests" but well-managed forests that practice sustainable forest management and conservation programs.
Our Products
Go Green Postcards– Not only are these postcards printed on recycled paper, but they also promote useful tips to help others Go Green. While these postcards cost us more to produce, we have chosen not to pass the extra cost onto our customers, because we feel that profits should not come at the expense of our environment.

Our Shipping
Our protective packaging is made from sealed air and bubble wrap. Both are recyclable and take up less room in landfills compared to traditional void fill.
We've been environmentally conscious since our doors opened, and have used recycled corrugated packaging for the past 17 years. This past year, we've recycled over 70 tons!
In our early years, before environmentally-friendly materials were created for packing, we tried using real popcorn to cushion our products (yes, the kind you eat) as well as a product manufactured with corn starch that would break down when exposed to water.
We are continually looking for ways to support and encourage conservation to protect our environment for the enjoyment of our future generations.
